(external link for video embedded below)
|
This video is frequently linked to by many websites discussing copyright and fair use. It is the first thing on the Code of Best Practices page listed below. It is also present in several slide shows I have come across in my search. This is the video that people watch to learn about how copyright effects teachers and classrooms.

Center for Social Media
With this site, you can access the Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Media Literacy Education as well as codes for many other areas such as research, poetry, and documentary film making. This is a great resource, but I have had issues with getting the pages to load. If you can be patient, this site can help you decide if what you are doing is appropriate under fair use. Hopefully the site will resolve its loading issues soon. If you can not reach this site, here is a full copy of the Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Media Literacy Education. This is a document that many resources link to in regards to copyright and fair use.
Copyright Clarity Slideshow
This slideshow was meant to be used in conjunction with the book "Copyright Clarity: How Fair Use Supports Digital Learning" by Renee Hobbs (Corwin Press, 2010). It is a set of guidlines to help teachers make good decisions where copyright is concerned. It is there to help teachers avoid just guessing about copyright and hoping not to get caught. It uses several short videos in its attempt to settle common misconceptions and fears.
Media Education Lab from the University of Rhode Island
This site is run by the University of Rhode Island. It offers a link to the slideshow above, but adds links to case studies, common questions, and lesson plans to support teachers and end the confusion about copyright. Many of their links are short videos that get to the point quickly. This entire site is a great resource of copyright information as well as other teaching resources if you have time to explore it.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES REGARDING COPYRIGHT
Center for Democracy and Technology
"CDT’s mission is to conceptualize and implement public policies that will keep the Internet open, innovative, and free." This group is very concerned with legislation regarding the internet and freedom of expression. Though this site obviously has it's own agenda, it also offers a plethora of information regarding digital copyright, free expression, consumer privacy and many other concerns. It also supplies links to briefs of cases regarding these topics as well as research backing up the stands that they take.
Copyright and Technology Blog
This is a blog run by Bill Rosenblatt. His consulting firm and blog explore copyright and technology as a business. He is a big supporter of digital rights management and offers many insights to why this is a good thing and not the big bad evil that many people make it out to be. This basically shows you the point of view of the guy who sends you your cease and desist notice.
