The article talks about the ISTE conference and what the group proposed to do to help all students have better access to both computers and the internet.
Digital Equity in Education: A Multilevel Examination of Differences in and Relationships Between Computer Access, Computer Use, and State Level Technology Policies
This is a rather hefty scholarly journal article looking at how student's access to computers effects the computer's use. Some of the results were rather surprising. For example, the article stated that in states where technology standards were tied to content standards, computer were used less. The article also talked about how different groups of students were more likely to use computers if there was access to them in the classroom, and how having a computer lab increased the likelihood of computers being used.
ISTE Toolkit
(This is) A toolkit from ISTE designed to help teachers use computers and technology more. The toolkit has ideas on inexpensive ways to set up a classroom computer and internet. Then once there is a computer and internet set-up, it has resources for ways teachers can incorporate technology into their teaching, including professional development resources.
Still Separate, Still Unequal
This article looks at how student access to technology, specifically computers and internet, varies. The article talks about how the internet is more likely to be used in 4th grade as opposed to 8th grade in math classes. Also the article looks at how schools with a high minority ratio have slightly less access to computers and technology. Also, the uses of technology noted seem to be aimed at more drills than learning for a deeper understanding.
